Castlevania Aria of Sorrow How to Continue After Graham
XVII - The Castle's Top Floor

In this room, go right, but don't go through the door at the far right of the corridor. Instead, at the right side of the corridor, look up and you'll see a gap in the ceiling. With the soul of the Giant Bat, we can now access this area, so fly up through the hole and to the room above. In this first room, three enemies will attack you - a Succubus, an Erinys, and a Gargoyle. Take care of the three foes. Then, left to add that area of the corridor to your map. Then simply walk right, jump over the gap we initially jumped into this room via, and go right into the adjacent room.
In this room, you'll instantly meet a very difficult foe to defeat - a Final Guard. Kill this foe (by making sure you're close enough where your weapon passes through his large shield and hits his armored body, it's the only way you'll damage him). When he's defeated, go right and jump up on the platforms there to a platform above. Here, you'll face off with a Basilisk, another new enemy we've yet to encounter in the game. When he's defeated, go left, jump up on the platforms to the top-most platform, and head right. Drop down on the far side of the room (on the right), to the door on the bottom right of the room. Go right into the next room.
Here, you'll face off with a Lubicant. Once he's slain, go right into the room in front of you. In this small room, grab the Super Potion, then go back left into the previous room. Re-fight the Lubicant there, and start climbing farther up in this area. You'll fight another Lubicant farther up in this vertical corridor. When you can go right again, do so, and you'll uncover yet another warp room. With that now on the map, go back left to the previous corridor, killing the Lubicant again. After fighting one or two more of them, climb up to the very top of the corridor. You can go right or left from here. First, go right into the next room there. There's nothing in this room, but we still need to add it to the map. With that added, go left to the previous corridor. Kill or avoid the reappearing Lubicants here, and go left into the next corridor.
In this room, head left, killing Succubusses, Red Minotaurs and other familiar enemies. At the far end, go left into the next corridor. In here, fight the Lubicants, as well as the Stolas foe as you head left down this corridor. Go left into the next room from there. In this room, work your way downward, fighting all familiar enemies. At the bottom of this room, you can go down into the room below, or right into the corridor there. We've been down into the room below already, so there's no need to back there. After killing the Great Armor and other foes here, go right into the next corridor. Fight another Great Armor in this corridor and grab the Satan's Ring he was protecting. With that in hand, go back left to the previous room. Start climbing back up this room, re-killing the enemies here. Go right at the top of this room to the previous corridor once more. But before going right, at the top of this room, go to the left of the corridor and destroy the ceiling there to reveal a secret room. Fly up to this room once you're able as a bat and grab the Gungner from within. Then, run right through this corridor and into the next corridor next to that, killing all of the familiar enemies. In here, kill more enemies and go to the right side of the room. Look up for a hole in the ceiling there. Access it via the Giant Bat soul, and go up to the room above.
In here, traverse the various platforms as they head up and around to the top of the room. You'll fight some familiar enemies (Succubus and the like) as you go upward. Once at the top of the room, you'll be in the left corner. You can go up through the ceiling from here, or left into the adjacent room. First, go left. Once out in this large, expansive room, go left, killing Basilisks as you go. At the far left of this wide open area, you can go through the floor to a room below. Down here, go right and you'll run into a new enemy called an Iron Golem. You really can't damage this guy without the right soul (that of the Killer Mantle), so kill him if you can. If you can't, slide through him or jump over him, and go to the dead end behind him. Destroy the wall with your weapon there, and go through to the secret room on the other side. In here, you'll get the final ability in the game, the Hippogryph ability, which allows you to perform a high jump, which is useful if you need to get high up and don't want to waste magic turning into a bat. With that in hand, head back left to the previous room. Kill or avoid the Iron Golem once more, then go up to the previous room full of Basilisks. Go back right, killing or avoiding the Basilisks, and back to the previous room we were just in. This time, go up through the ceiling into the next room
Once up here, swing a right into the next room. In here, you'll find a ball and chain attached to the ceiling. What you want to do is hit this ball into the wall to your right to break the barrier between the two areas there for some continuality. With that done, go back left to the previous vertical corridor. Ignore the doors on the left for now and continue upward. The next door on your right is the next objective. This is a save room, so save your game and heal up, then bear back left again into the vertical corridor. Continue climbing up this area, and through the ceiling into the next vertical corridor. Once up here, go right into the adjacent room. There's nothing important in this room, but we should still add it to our map. With that done, go back left to the vertical corridor. Keep climbing up to the top of this corridor, where you'll find a room at the top right you can go into. Go into this room to find a Mana Prism waiting for you there. Take that, then go back left to the vertical corridor once more.
Now, ignore the door on the top left of this corridor, and climb down slightly to the second-to-top door on the left. Go through this door, and you'll be back in the humongous room here. Explore the entire thing thoroughly with the Bat soul, making sure to take out any enemies that might threaten you. In the top lefthand corner of this humongous room, you'll find a Kaladbolg, which is basically useless at this point, you should have a more powerful sword. With that in hand, fly through the ceiling with the bat soul to the room above.
In here, fly around and make sure to get the entire area added to your map. Then, grab the Mana Prism there, and fall back down to the room below. Fly over to the right side at the top of this large room, and go right into the adjacent vertical corridor. Start climbing up to the very top of this large vertical corridor now. At the very top, go left into the next area. Climb these stairs here, and go left into the boss lair… this is the final boss fight (or is it?)
advertisement
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: The game can end after the following fight. But it doesn't have to. It doesn't have to at all, in fact - there's a whole lot more game to be played. Before I tell you how to make this not the final boss fight, let me suggest this - beat the game now, so you can see the crappier ending, and then reset your game, follow my instructions on how to make the game last longer, and then beat it again. That way, you get more bang for your buck. To make the game not end, before entering the boss lair at the top of the stairs, go to the souls screen on the main menu. Make the following choices your souls: Flame Demon, Giant Bat, Succubus. Then, enter the lair. Either way, the boss battle ahead is the same.
Boss: Graham Jones
This could be the last boss battle. Either way, it isn't too difficult as long as you practice a little patience. You shouldn't rely on souls in this battle (and can't if you don't want the game to end after this battle, since you should have three souls equipped of a certain kind), so instead you have to rely on your primary weapon and some skill as well. Graham Jones basically comes in three parts. The first part is Graham himself, in his human form. He has two attacks in this form. He'll disappear, then reappear (and you can tell where he's reappearing rather easily by watching for the large beam of light that appears right before he does), then shoot either fireballs at you (which you can smash out of the air with your weapons), or these black and orange balls that float at you slowly. What you want to do is get in front of Graham, wait for him to appear, and quickly attack him once before he attacks. When he does, jump over his head and behind him, and slash him again. He'll turn around, so jump back over him to the other side, and he'll disappear. Repeat this process until his first form his done. The second form of Graham Jones is also in his human form. He'll stand stationary in the middle of the room and shoot out those orange and black balls three at a time over and over again. This form is elementary to beat as well. Avoid the balls (they come in two different forms, one of which you can simply stand in front of him to avoid) and keep slashing at him. When he's been damaged enough, Graham Jones will turn into a monster. This monster is formidable indeed, so make sure to keep an eye on your hit points and heal if and when necessary. This monster attacks in three ways - with his two hands, and with the lightning bolt shooter thingy that floats above his head. First of all, you'll know when his hands are going to attack you because they will do a flash like thing before coming in towards you in the middle. Slide out of their way, and avoid the bolts of lightning from above as well. Keep focusing your attacks on the little head of the monster in the center of its form. He'll be defeated before long.
Assuming you had the proper souls equipped (for if you didn't, this is the end of the road for you), Graham will escape, and then Genya will appear. As Soma and Genya talk, it becomes clear that Soma is, indeed, Dracula, and that's why he has the power to command the creatures of the castle. The only way to rid himself of these dark powers and return to Earth a man free of the dark powers is to fight the dark powers themselves in the realm of chaos. That is our next destination. Once Graham is defeated, go left into the adjacent room. Here, pick up Dracula's Tunic, as well as slashing the elaborate looking candle there to get the soul of the Black Panther. With that in hand, go back right to the boss lair, and right again to the staircase leading downward. Take the staircase back into the vertical corridor ahead.
XVIII - Getting to the Source of the Chaos
To get to the source of the chaos, you must first understand where we are going. Go to your map. You see the stray block areas on the top of the map? We've been through these before - these make up part of the Floating Garden. Our objective is to get back to the Floating Garden so that they gray spots up there are filled in - we can fill those in, and areas not yet on the map are beyond those areas.
To get to the Floating Garden, go to a warp room and warp to warp room in the Dance Hall. From there, look at your map. The place basically right in the center of the map itself is our objective - those four attached rooms that are of identical size on the map. Once you're in that vicinity, read on.
Of the four rooms, the very top of the room at the northeast of the four room is the key. Once in this room, leave the room via the entrance/exit at the right, and you'll enter the series of split rooms along the top of the castle map. From these rooms, go right through two rooms. The third room you end up in is the room we need to be in. Go right down this room's initial corridor. When you can go through the floor to the bottom half of that room, do so. Fight the Kicker Skeleton down here, and then go left into the save room there. Save your game and heal, then go back right. Re-fight the Kicker Skeleton, then go right and through the floor again to the lower area of this room once more. The dark barrier that was once guarding this door here is no lifted. Go left and into the boss lair there. We have to fight Julius Belmont now.
advertisement
Boss: Julius Belmont
This boss battle is rather simplistic actually - you'd be surprised indeed. If you've played any Castlevania game before, then you know what to expect from a Belmont, even if you're usually playing as one, not fighting against one. Julius' primary weapon is the Vampire Killer, the famous Belmont whip that's passed down from generation to generation to kill Dracula's reincarnations. In addition to that, Julius can use many of the sub-weapons that a Belmont can be expected to use, primarily the Holy Water and Axe. Basically, Julius runs around the room, constantly whipping and using his sub-weapons. He jumps a bit and can even do pseudo-teleports (I say pseudo because you can still follow his trail and hence know where he's going to end up so you can get a pre-emptive hit in against him).
Basically, you want to avoid getting hit by his whip (simply because it's so damaging), and get in hits whenever it is that you can. Additionally, you'll want to avoid those special weapons of his. When he takes enough damage, he'll do this crazy thing where he sucks you in and damages you continuously for seconds on end. This might be a good time to heal yourself, and then move on from there. After he does that, he becomes faster and more agile, and his attacks more sudden and often, but other than that, he fights in the same, semi-predictable manner. When he's defeated, getting to the source of the chaos is finally an option.
Although you can go left and enter the Chaos Realm, you should first go right and back up a level, then left where the Kicker Skeleton is to the save room, and save and heal. Going back to the entrance of the castle to buy goods from Hammer is also a recommended option. When you're all set, go back to the boss lair where we fought the Belmont and go left into the next room. Here you'll be lead to that small solitary room at the top of the map, which is, in essence, the source of pure evil.
XIX - The Chaos Realm
When you enter the Chaos Realm, you can go up, left, or right. Going right is useless right now, so first, go left and into a save room. Save your game, then go back right to the original room in this area. Turn into a bat via the Giant Bat soul, and fly up to the room above. As you climb up this vertical corridor, ignore the first door on your right and keep climbing upwards. You'll eventually run into a Lubicant, so naturally, you'll want to slay him. Keep climbing. You'll come to a door to your left and a Beam Skeleton. Kill or avoid the Beam Skeleton and bear left into the room there. Fight (or simply avoid) the Iron Golem within, and grab the Mana Prism behind him, against the wall. Then go back right to the previous room, refighting the Beam Skeleton there.
Keep on climbing this vertical corridor, fighting more familiar enemies as you go. At the top of this area, you can go right or left. Completely ignoring the door going right, go left into the adjacent corridor. As you head left down this corridor, slay the Gladiators and Basilisks you come across. Ignore the area going upwards near the left end of the corridor, and just go left into the next room. In here, fight the Giant Skeleton, and then simply go left into yet the next room there. Ignore the door going left, and drop down to the bottom of this short vertical corridor. You'll have to fight a new enemy called Alastor here, as well as other familiar foes. Then, swing left into yet the next room.
Drop down through these corridors, fighting Beam Skeletons and Slimes as you go. At the bottom, go right into the next room. In this small room, simply go through the floor to the vertical corridor below. Once down here, go left at the top of this area to find another save room. Save your game and whatnot, then go back right and continue downward. At the bottom of this foe-less area, go left into the room there, then drop down from this small room to the room below.
advertisement
In this large room, kill the two flying enemies we've fought so many times in the past, and work your way to the bottom of this room. Once at the bottom of the room, go right to the right side of the room, and begin climbing. You'll fight a new, powerful enemy as you climb, called the Demon Lord. Slay him, then climb to the door leading right and into the next room. Go through this door into the next room. In this room, equip the Skula soul so that you can sink in water, and jump into the water. Work your way to the far right side of this room, fighting Fish Heads and Tritons along the way - nothing we haven't seen several times throughout the game. Once at the right side of the room, go right and into the next room. Climb this vertical corridor, and worry not about enemy threats, for there are none here. Then climb through the ceiling and up to the next room.
Here, start climbing some more. Kill the Succubus you come across, and when you come to a room leading leftward, go into it. In this small room, you'll encounter a Great Armor. Kill him and grab the Super Potion he was guarding. Then, go back right to the previous vertical corridor. Start climbing again, and once at the top, go right into the next room. You'll now be in a clock tower-like room with Medusa Heads and other flying enemies. Climb up to the top of this room, and go left into the next corridor. You'll now find yourself in a water corridor once more. Let the water bring you to the surface, and once at the surface, you can go right or left. First, go right. In this small room, kill or avoid the Iron Golem there and grab the High Mind Up potion he's guarding. Then go back left to the previous room, jump over the water, and go left again to yet another corridor.
In here, go left and kill the powerful new enemy called the Shadow Knight. Once that formidable foe is slain, go left into the next room. In here, slay the Stolas, and go left into yet the next room. In here, drop downward and avoid the enemies here. Fall through the ceiling to the room below. In here, fight a slew of enemies, including another Demon Lord and a whole lot of Succubusses. Then leave this room going right. From here, it's straight forward as can be. When you get to water, let it take you up and you'll have a choice of going left into a boss lair or right. First go right and save your game, then go left, and left again into the boss lair.
Boss: Chaos
Chaos can be an intimidating boss to fight. Afterall, he's not only this game's ultimate enemy, but he also takes up the entire screen. He comes in two forms, and the forms are ultra-powerful. As long as you have plenty of healing items, and heal when needed (which means you have to keep a strict eye on your health meter), you should be fine through both versions of the enemy. During the first fight with Chaos, you'll be fighting was is, in essence, a huge rotating wheel that rotates in the center of the room outward.
advertisement
There are four "spokes" of this wheel. None of them can damage you via collision, but they can attack you with their different attacks. Basically these foes, until killed, lock your ability to use your souls. Three of the four spokes are statues, each of which has a crystal in its chest. They are colored red, blue and yellow, the colors of the soul types. You're going to have to heal often here, because there's just too much going on to avoid all of the attacks. One statue will shoot crystal pieces at you that orbit him, while another statue will throw a target at you. If this target locks on to you, the next statue will smash you (for devastating damage) with a large demon-like creature that flies at you. You damage these foes by simply swinging away at them with your weapons. As you defeat the foes, your souls will be able to be used. For instance, killing the yellow-crystal statue will allow yellow souls to be used, and so on and so forth. But the battle isn't over yet - the final form of Chaos comes now. Make sure you're all healed up for this battle! Basically, there's a large black orb in the center of the room. This is the lifeblood of Chaos. You can simply slash away at it to kill it right away, but don't. Instead, first concentrate your attacks on the four green orbs at the corners of the room that attack you constantly. Kill each of those orbs to clear the room of flying debris. Also, avoid the skeleton snake going all over the room at all times. He's hard to avoid and damages you greatly, so keep an eye on your health meter and heal often! When the four corner orbs are dead, the room gets tame. Stand directly underneath the black orb now in the center of the room and slash at it until it explodes. Chaos is no more, and Soma is unleashed from the compelling grasp of Dracula's powers.
XX - Obtaining 100%
Whether or not you've beaten the game by either of the two means, you won't have 100% on your map if you followed my walkthrough. In fact, if you've followed it to a tee, you should have 95.9%. Getting the other 4.1% in order to get the ultra-complete 100% rating is easy, however. You must do this before completing the game, however. If you complete the game, you won't have the option to go back and have full reign over the castle. Do this, then go back to the above sections and complete the game. This should be easy even if you've already completed the game, because unless you start a new game over the one you currently have going, you can always go back to your last save before fighting Chaos.
To get the 100%, you have to have the Undine soul equipped and the Curly soul. You couldn't have completed the game without Undine so you should definitely have it. If you don't have Curly's soul, however, you should go ahead and get that now. Then, read onward.
Go to a warp room anywhere in the castle. Warp to the warp room at the bottom middle of the map. Once there, you want to head right in a completely straight path a few rooms rightward until you come to a large, tall room with a waterfall flowing at the right side of the room. Once you've identified the room, go to the far left side of the room next to the doorway we used to access this room in the first place. Stand a bit away from the doorway however, so that the tall area of the alcove above is above your head, and not the constricting confines of the lower area to your right - otherwise this won't work. Hold down the R button with the Curly soul equipped (and you have to be standing on top of the water in the room with Undine), and you'll turn into a large version of the Curly enemy, jetting rightward toward the waterfall. If you pick up enough steam on your way rightward, you'll go right through the waterfall to the other side of it. Here, pick up the Eversing, which is a high-defense piece of armor (but not as good as the Dracula's Tunic in terms of overall stat building), then go right into the next room.
In here, go right down this narrow corridor, fighting Dryads and new enemies called Mudmen as you go rightward. You'll also fight a Werejaguar before getting all the way to the right end of the room, where you can go to the next room. In this room, you can either go right into the next corridor or upwards. First, go upwards. Fight the Gargoyles here as you climb upwards and to the room above. Here, there are no enemies. Instead, there's a large door to your right that was blocking your entrance into this area to begin with, and a switch on the ground to the left. Press this switch to unlock that door (just in case), then go back down to the previous room. Fall to the ground here, re-fight the two Gargoyles in this room, and then go right into the next room.
In this watery corridor, go right to the far end, fighting familiar enemies as you go. Then fall through the floor at the right side of this corridor, going down into the next large room below. This room is half dry and half water. The areas of water are the real point of interest. Kill the Sirens flying around if you so desire, then enter the water, making sure to have Skula equipped so you can sink in the water and get around. First and foremost, once under water, head left, killing the Fish Heads and Killer Fish as you go. You'll come to a dead end, but it's really not a dead end - instead, slash at the lefthand side wall there and make it crumble under the strength of your weapons. Swim leftward into the secret room there. In here, you'll find what could be the most powerful weapon in the game, the Claimh Solais, within this room. You'll obviously want to equip it, then go back right into the previous room. Simply swim rightward from here, killing Fish Heads and whatnot s you go. Once on the right side, underwater, swim right into the next room. Then, drop through the floor in this small room to the area below.
In here, drop down to the very bottom of this room, taking care of the two Cagnazzos as you go. Once at the bottom, bear left into the next room. As you head left down this long corridor, you'll fight a Flame Demon or two, as well as other familiar enemies. Make sure to slash at the several treasure chests along the way to get a great many coins out of them. Once all the way left, bear left into the adjacent room. Once here, slash at the treasure chest there to make a whole lot of Ripper enemies come out of it. Slash at them, then begin to climb upwards, contending with Gargoyles and the like. Once at the top, go right into the room at the top. In this room, kill the Mimic enemy and grab the Joyeuse there, a fairly weak sword.

If you've followed the guide up through now, that should represent 100.0% on your map! You've seen the entire castle. Make sure to get 100.0% of the souls as well, fill up your enemy appendix, get all the weapons, armor and items, and complete the game for the "ultimate" save file for this game!
Congratulations! You've completed one hundred percent of Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow!
